Muscle Boys is a snotty, tongue-in-cheek gabber punk band that records short albums that play like the most alcohol fueled garage revival acts of the late 80s and early 90s.

Parodying the seriousness of most gabber and digital hardcore without resorting to mere novelty, Muscle Boys are the perfect party band for the musically jaded.

The original EP hits hard and doesn’t let up with only a small sampling of what was coming around the bend. The second EP was were the true voice of Muscle Boys was found. The punk and gabber elements were patch-worked together with just the right amount of pop sensibilities to appeal to noise freaks, angsty tweens, punk rawkers, and ravers.

These two EPs together are a 29 minute party you’ll be glad to keep coming back too. 

ND-012- High School Clicks - Student Body

Yet another 2011 live improvised set from High School Clicks recorded directly from the mixer. This shorter set started with the idea to create some minimal house for the kids to zone out and enjoy. As the boys become more and more comfortable with their solely hardware based set, you can tell that their voice is becoming more and more distinct.

The majority of this 30+ minute mix is centered around the minimal feel, but by the end the real wankery starts. Some might say it is a skewed take on world beat IDM, others might just call it fucktard bullshit, but the ending is at least worth one listen to form an opinion for yourself.

As more and more of these sets are being recorded, you can only imagine that they will continue to get better and tighter until you won’t be able to tell that they are off the cuff experiments or created without the aid of any software programs.

ND-011- High School Clicks - Gentlemen, Dim Your Machines

2011 Live improvised performance recorded directly from the mixer (of the best sound). High School Clicks, the combo of Robad Pills and Louie Applesauce are caught playing live at a House Party in the sweltering heat of Jacksonville Beach in this recent recording.

The boys, armed with their favorite equipment came with only a BPM in mind and set to work to create the perfect atmosphere to keep the feet moving and the party grooving. In my continuing pursuit to attempting to show that not all improvised music has to sound like a muddy mess, allow me to present to you “Gentlemen, Dim Your Machines” by High School Clicks.

ND-010 - Louie Applesauce - Good to See You Again, Louie Applesauce

2011 Mix created especially for Neon Doom and yes the name is in reference to the 1973 Alice Cooper film. After more than a year away from making a proper mix, Louie Applesauce of Hot Mess/High School Clicks returns to bring a collection of bangers out from the vault with one or two new ones to get your mouth watering.

The original techno scene was the true heir to the punk rock throne. As punk rock became more and more formulaic, in the garages, factories, and fields across England, Detroit, and Chicago people began to find a new form of expression and musical experimentation. It is rare that a new form of music comes into existence that carries no pre-existing boundaries (experimental/noise/avant-garde etc. are actually some of the worse offenders of boundaries, even if the artists don’t always want to admit it) and the original techno was free of all of this.

A scene where no one really knew what they were doing; so everyone was welcome and equal. Borrowing and stealing from each other to create bigger and better songs with the only goal being to have a good time and dance.

Over time, assimilation took hold and the smell of money and success started to strip away the openness that once existed. Still, the dance underground is still one of the tightest, most supportive, and most self critical in existence.

ND008 - Louie Applesauce Presents “Dick Rave & the Candy Beads”

2009 DJ Mix from Louie Applesauce, half of Hot Mess/High School Clicks/Muscle Boys. This particular mix is pretty sloppy compared to some of the other ones that would come out in the months that shortly followed, but either due to the name or some hidden charm to the proceedings, this was a frequently highly downloaded mix from the old Neon Doom Website.

So here it is again, in all of its glory. It originally had a short run of 10 CDRs with handmade mixed media covers, those have long since been given away. So now all that is left is to click the link and stream this collection of cuts.

ND005 - High School Clicks - Love U Rave b/w Raving Goodbye

High School Clicks is one of the many aliases of Hot Mess. Started a handful of years ago, Hot Mess was meant to meld the dance and experimental ideologies of robad pills & Louie Applesauce. Within a year and a half after forming, however, many other production teams around the country (including another production team in Duval) started using the once unclaimed Hot Mess name.

Instead of worrying about who came up with the name first or being confused with other production teams, robad and Louie decided to just let the name drift back into the abyss of overused cliché and changed their name to High School Clicks.

These first two tracks from the newly christened band explore their love of old-school rave in the most purest of forms. This two tracks are nothing but straight club bangers from days gone past that seem to become more and more a distant memory as the music press removes the idea of techno and replaces it as all variations of the superfluous term “dubstep.”

Listen to these two tracks with your eyes closed, picturing yourself surrounded by sweating bodies in the middle of an abandoned farm in the middle of the boonies and just let yourself jump, sway, and dance to the sounds of High School Clicks.

The first Muscle Boys EP was created as a quick gabber send up because it was late at night and we had a need for pounding speed. The project would later take on a more gabber punk influence later on, which can be heard beginning in the cover of “Where Eagles Dare” off of this album. This first release, however, was almost strictly HxC gabber, from the down pitched dance floor war threats to the skittering and swirling synths and pounding beats. This “joke” quickly became a repeated listen over the months after it was made and led us to create a second EP of more pop influenced gabber and currently working on a third collection. Enjoy this tongue-in-cheek approach to a stern genre.

The Muscle Boys logo was created by friend Robert Inhuman, from the band Realicide.
