A Live video of an improvised High School Clicks performance at Burro Bar in Jacksonville, Florida, for Jacksonville Art & Noise Society #11. Filmed by Keaton Orsborn.
Originally set up to be an Electric Teeth show, a change of events turned the evening into a HSC performance. There were a few kinks in the MIDI sequencers that left a few of the triggers taking a mind of their own, but it wouldn’t be a live performance if there wasn’t something messing up.
ND-012- High School Clicks - Student Body
Yet another 2011 live improvised set from High School Clicks recorded directly from the mixer. This shorter set started with the idea to create some minimal house for the kids to zone out and enjoy. As the boys become more and more comfortable with their solely hardware based set, you can tell that their voice is becoming more and more distinct.
The majority of this 30+ minute mix is centered around the minimal feel, but by the end the real wankery starts. Some might say it is a skewed take on world beat IDM, others might just call it fucktard bullshit, but the ending is at least worth one listen to form an opinion for yourself.
As more and more of these sets are being recorded, you can only imagine that they will continue to get better and tighter until you won’t be able to tell that they are off the cuff experiments or created without the aid of any software programs.

ND-011- High School Clicks - Gentlemen, Dim Your Machines
2011 Live improvised performance recorded directly from the mixer (of the best sound). High School Clicks, the combo of Robad Pills and Louie Applesauce are caught playing live at a House Party in the sweltering heat of Jacksonville Beach in this recent recording.
The boys, armed with their favorite equipment came with only a BPM in mind and set to work to create the perfect atmosphere to keep the feet moving and the party grooving. In my continuing pursuit to attempting to show that not all improvised music has to sound like a muddy mess, allow me to present to you “Gentlemen, Dim Your Machines” by High School Clicks.

ND007 - Whimsical Fetus - The Leg’s Urethra
Recorded in a garage during a balmy August night in 2003, this improvised performance brought together a lot of the strengths found in the bizarro collective known as “Whimsical Fetus” that usually can’t be captured so easily on recordings.
Allow me to muse… I feel that most 100% improvised noise music is a hollow experience that can only be enjoyed by the performers. Over the years, as noise music has become more and more mainstream in the hipster chic communities, I feel that improvised noise music has quickly become a way in which people try to contort their philosophical hodgepodge rhetoric into music as an escape from critics who would be able to more easily judge their ideals when written on paper instead of through the more obtuse use of sound.
To me this is the ruin of music in the experimental genre. Music should be able to speak volumes without the need to sit down and muse half thoughts picked up and distorted from other philosophical luminaries. When you listen to a truly great, 100% improvised piece, it shouldn’t sound 100% improvised. It shouldn’t sound like every other 100% improvised piece in a wall of chaotic noise and similar effects spreading ad nauseum so that you can name the exact pedal being used to generate it. Yes, you can use your music as a platform for new ideas, but they shouldn’t be a cover for bullshit terrible pap.
The Leg’s Urethra is a performance that stands out of place and time. A work that doesn’t need any legs to stand on but the recorded sounds. Sure, there is plenty of rhetoric and ideas hidden in it, but if you don’t find them through the music, then they either failed at their mission or you just didn’t pick up on them.
